I was excited to go to my first Condo Association meeting last December. I thought they would talk about all of the things they were going to do to make Stoney Hollow better. Instead I became quickly discouraged. They claimed there was barely enough money to fix anything and fixing the pool was out of the question. We were assured that at a minimum the speed bumps would be painted, but that hasn't happened yet. They don't look like they've been touched in ten years.
It seems to me they could be doing a lot more with the money they are getting. They went over the numbers to placate everyone, but I'm still skeptical. One hundred units times $200 per month is $20,000 per month. Even if only half of that gets collected, they should be able to do a lot more with $10,000 per month. At $120,000 per year, they could practically rebuild this place every ten years.
The two biggest expenses listed were for landscaping and for the management company. Couldn't we just have a meeting every month and decide how to spend the money we collected the previous month and do away with the management company? I'm sure we could cut way back on landscaping too. It seems like they just blow leaves around.
A lot of people at the meeting made it clear that they wanted a website or blog to discuss things like this, so here it is. Hopefully we can band together to make Stoney Hollow a better place and increase our property values.
Today it rained and I saw geese and ducks swimming in the pool. At the home owners meeting they said that the pool was being treated for mosquitoes so obviously that isn't good for the environment if there are birds swimming in it. The whole situation to me seems ridiculous.
As you can see, not having a working pool is something I want to see changed. What things do you want changed? Maybe we can all work together and get it done.
